Our People

Our specialist occupational health team is led by Dr Simon Ryder-Lewis, BSc. BHB. MBChB. FFOM, FRCPI, Specialist Occupational Physician and Michelle Ryder-Lewis, Dip Nurs. MA, Specialist Occupational Health Nurse.

Our expert occupational health team and professional relationships include: Occupational Physicians, Occupational Cardiologists, Occupational Health Nurses, Specialist Nutritionists, Exercise Physiologists, Industrial Psychologists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, General Practitioners, Occupational Hygienists and Occupational Toxicologists.

Dr Simon Ryder-Lewis

Specialist Occupational Physician | MBChB DIH FFOM FRCPI

Dr Simon Ryder-Lewis has extensive experience in occupational medicine and consults to industry and small businesses throughout New Zealand. He graduated as a Medical Practitioner from Otago University in 1994 and has worked full time in medical practice since this date. He is currently registered to practice as a Medical Practitioner in New Zealand (NZ) (NZMC No. 20475). He works as a full-time as a Specialist Occupational Physician and holds a number of [delete “contracted”] Occupational Physician positions in the Wellington region.

Simon has undertaken and completed post-graduate training in Occupational Medicine and attends regular on-going education meetings. He has obtained the post-graduate Diploma in Industrial Health from the University of Otago and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. He worked for a number of years as the consultant at a Chronic Pain Service at Lower Hutt Hospital and is a former Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in Occupational Medicine at Otago University, Wellington School of Medicine.

He has undertaken medico-legal expert witness training with the Australasian College of Legal Medicine. His experience includes previous work as a consultant for the Work Safe New Zealand Asbestos and Occupational Respiratory Diseases Panel. He is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Occupational Medicine ANZSOM) and is a former President of ANZSOM. He is a member of the UK Society of Occupational Medicine, MEDICHEM (Occupational and Environmental Health in the Production and Use of Chemicals), ICOH (International Commission on Occupational Health), IOMSC (The International Occupational Medicine Society Collaborative) and AMROA (The Australian Medical Review Officers Association).

Michelle Ryder-Lewis

Nurse Consultant | RN MA (Applied) Nursing

Michelle has been a registered nurse for over 20 years. She has extensive experience in acute health care setting, risk management and maximising staff potential. Michelle has a Masters degree in Nursing (Applied) from Victoria University of Wellington. She is also a member of the New Zealand Occupational Health Nurses Association (NZOHNA). Michelle is registered to carry out drug testing to the NZ & Australian standard, she carries out Wellness clinics and health monitoring clinics required at the worksite.

Michelle also provides workstation assessments and any health education and teaching for employees that a company may need assistance with. Michelle has extensive skills in policy development and supporting businesses to develop meaningful and practical health and safety policies and procedures around new workplace practices. She is available at the end of the phone for advice and to talk through any health concerns with employers.
